“Mladi Behar" (Young Blossom) - The Bosnian-Herzegovinian Cultural Center of Idaho - was formed in July 2000 in Boise, Idaho. The name Young Blossom was chosen to signify a new beginning in a new country. We use traditional dance to transcend cultural barriers and as a means of sharing culture with the people of Idaho and to preserve Bosnian tradition for future generations. We are a volunteer-driven non-profit organization with 501-c status. Mladi Behar was founded by lrvaz Husić who invited local Bosnian teenagers to be part of a performing youth group, a place for the teenagers to come together and learn about their culture. Twenty kids showed up at the first meeting. After performing their first song “Vraćam ti se grade" (Return to my Home Town!) in Cassia Park, for the Bosnian Soccer team "Kra]išnik", Mladi Behar received better reviews than anticipated. At the end of the summer, we had a total of fifty members ranging in 12-25 years of age. At this point, we decided to incorporate traditional Bosnian Folk dance with traditional Bosnian song and host a grand opening. We saw March 8th, International Women's Day, as our opportunity to debut our group and appeared before a crowd of 100 for the first time as ‘Mladi Behar". The event was held at the Basque Center in Boise on March 8th, 2001. Since then we have had hundreds of performances around the state and country. We even took the group to perform in Bosnia in 2007. Most of the dancers you will see today were born in the US.

Sangha Taiko is Japanese drumming group sponsored by the Idaho-Oregon Buddhist Temple in Ontario, Oregon. They perform throughout the Treasure Valley and adjoining communities in an effort to educate, unify and entertain through their music. They perform for private parties, corporate events, schools and community functions.
In Japanese, the word taiko translates as “big drum” or “fat drum”. The playing of taiko in Japan was a part of folk festivals, religious ceremonies, agricultural rituals, sumo, and Kabuki and Noh performances. In the post-World War II era, group or ensemble taiko came into existence. Sangha Taiko considers their group and their play to be an extension of the Three Treasures of the Buddhist Tradition. The Three Treasures are the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. The Buddha is the reality that surrounds us. The Dharma is the truths that reveal that reality. The Sangha is we, who listen and awaken to the truth. |
